Under 13 Division 1

  • Killorglin AFC 7 – 1 Park B

Following a decent National Cup run, the under 13s finally got to play a league game with Park B the visitors to the Dragons Den. An awful night for football in terms of weather, saw the visitors start brightly, and it looked like Killorglin might be in for a tough night. But a free kick from Jack O’Connor, and strikes from Gearoid Hassett and Dylan Francis saw Killorglin settle in and take control. Park, to be fair, didn’t give up and grabbed an equaliser shortly before the break, to leave the half time score at a far from comfortable 3-1. And the second half started poorly from the home team when Park were awarded a harsh penalty. A fantastic save from Martin Fay in goal kept Killorglin well ahead, and we pushed on from there with goals from Stephen O’Loughlin and Kaiya O’Flaherty.

Late in the game, Dean Cahill came off the bench, and despite looking decidedly cold and subdued, he managed to convert a 25 yard effort on the half volley, and produce a nice turn and finish in the box to complete a brace. So 7-1 didn’t flatter Killorglin in the end, but it took stand-out performances from everyone to put us in control at key points in the game. Tireless work from Jack O’Leary and Aaron Broderick in midfield where their quality shone. Good wide play from Stephen and Ethan, and later on Kaiya gave us an attacking threat that wasn’t seen from the visitors. Dylan up front worked hard, and Gearoid Hassett was in a different class! Special mention to the defence who haven’t played together as a back 4 previously: Jason, Oisin, Jack and Kaiya showed a fantastic attitude and worked for the team throughout. It was hard to be a sub on a night like this, but they all contributed and I appreciate that.

Team: Martin Fay, Jason O’Sullivan, Oisin Cronin, Jack O’Connor, Kaiya O’Flaherty, Aaron Broderick, Jack O’Leary, Ethan Coffey, Stephen O’Loughlin, Gearoid Hassett, Dylan Francis. Subs: Cian Naylor, Darragh McKeefry, Dean Cahill

Under 12

  • Park A 0 – 3 Killorglin AFC A

Killorglin Under 12’s travelled to Tralee to play the Park A team in a top of the table game. Killorglin started slowly and found it difficult to get up to speed with the game. We started to create changes and our speed up front was causing Park problems. Dylan, Eoghan & Mikey were main danger men.

Tom and Cillian got on top in the middle of the field and this dictated the rest of the game, After 15 mins a through ball from Cillian put Dylan through on gaol which he finished well. We had a few chances before half time. Our defence stood up to everything that Park threw at them, Callum, Daniel, Jason & Calum were excellent. Our goalie Jack Macgillycuddy was man of the Match with some great saves.

The second half we started better, and started playing a fantastic passing game which was missing in the first half. Eoghan Hassett went on a great run and the Park goalie made a great save which rebounded back to our in form striker Dylan who finished well for his 2nd and brings his tally to 8 this season in just 5 games. Park put a bit of pressure on us for 5 to 6 mins but our midfielders and defences/goalie stood up to the challenge. With about 10 mins to go Dylan took a shot on and again the goalkeeper saved, but Mikey was there to finish.

Some exceptional performances especially from Jack in goals, Daniel and Calum Russell in defence, Tom, Cillian, Darragh & Eoghan in Midfield and Mikey & Dylan up front.

Under 13 SFAI National Cup

  • Killavilla 3 – 1 Killorglin AFC

Killavilla

Killorglin Under 13s bowed out of the national cup on Saturday after a tough encounter in Roscrea. Despite a bright start, Killorglin failed to break down a well organised Killavilla side, with Jack O’Leary and Jack O’Connor dominating an exceptionally tall Killavilla midfield. Midway through the half Killorglin went behind after a corner kick was scrambled into the net. Despite a few half chances, we went into the break a little disappointed to be a goal down.

The second half started better, and a fantastic in-swinging corner from Jack O’Connor was glanced in to the net by Dylan Moriarty. 1-1 and game on. Gearoid Hasset worked tirelessly in midfield to service the two Dylans up front, but again Killorglin were behind when a harsh free kick saw Villa head the ball into the Killorglin net. Despite exceptional work from Darragh McKeefry and Cillian Burke at the back, and Jack O’Leary and Aaron Broderick in Midfield, Killorglin couldn’t break down the Villa defence. And before the end, a break-away goal from Villa broke Killorglin hearts.

3-1 in the end, but I was unbelievably proud of the effort and commitment of all 14 players who travelled to Roscrea on the day. You did the club proud!

Senior B

  • Killorglin AFC B 3 – 2 CG Killarney

Killorglin B team were due to play CG Killarney away on Sat. night but the game had to be switched to Killorglin all weather. These 2 teams had already played out a thrilling 3-3 draw a couple of weeks ago so goals were on the card. CG started well and were 1-0 up after 5 minutes as a high ball with a strong wind caught the Killorglin defence and Kian O’Mahony finished it off. CG should of at least got a 2nd as they had some great pressure from corners but it was Killorglin that pulled one back 5 minutes before the break when a Sean Cozzy Costeloe corner was met by the head of Stuart Delaney.

1-1 at the break. Killorglin should have had the advantage in the 2nd half but it was CG that again took the lead when some sloppy defending left in Dave McSweeney to put CG 2-1 up. Killorglin started to get a hold of the ball and with about 20 minutes left Shane Riordan made a great run and cross that Aiden” Nat “O’Sullivan finished for his first goal of the campaign. With about 5 minutes left Killorglin took the lead when substitute Ryan Riordan put a great ball through to Darren Riordan who cooly slotted it away. CG were unlucky not to get an equaliser in the last minute of the game when from a corner had 2 or 3 shots blocked in front of goal. The game finished 3-2 to Killorglin, a good match played in great spirit with CG feeling unlucky not to come away with something.

Some great performances all round on the night with a real team effort but M.O.T.M. went to Darren Riordan who worked tirelessly all night and the winning goal to add.

Next weeks fixtures have the U-17’s at home to Asdee Rovers on Sat 25th @ 3pm. Also the B Team are away to Na Fianna at 2:30 on Sun 26th but that might be changed so keep an eye on it.

Senior A

  • Camp 2 – 1 Killorglin AFC
Only 1 game this weekend for Killorglin senior set up as both the youths and the B team games were called off. The A’s were away to Camp sunday afternoon. Compliments must go to Camp on the great work done on their pitch as its in great shape. As for the game, it was a fairly even contest mostly for the first half with Killorglin’s Aiden O’Sullivan coming closest for the visitors but to no avail. 0-0 at half time – the 2nd half opened up a bit more and there was a few more chances created with both sides coming close – Tony Lyons pulling off a couple of great saves for Killorglin. You could see both sides wanted this game and there was no holding back as the tackles flew in. The introduction of Ryan Keane in 60th minute was to prove fruitful as 5 minutes later Shane O’Connor put a great ball in across goals from a free and Keano met it perfectly with a header to the corner of the net. Camp, to be fair, reacted well to the goal and started to press Killorglin and were rewarded with a goal with 15 minutes to go. A 1-1 draw seemed to be on the cards with time nearly up and would probably been a fair result but Camp pressing to the last minute had a cross from the right met at the back post, Lyons seemed to have smothered it on the line but the referee pointed to the spot. A harsh result on the away team but I suppose we are a few years away from goaline technology yet. Killorglin will have to take it on the chin. All credit to Camp with a great fight back in a game where 3 points will be a big help in what is a very tough division.

20141004_U13-Soccer-Team_web

The Under 13s put in a fantastic performance against a capable Killarney Athletic side in Woodlawn on Saturday morning. The team started brightly with Darragh McKeefry marshalling the back line well, and Jack O’Leary working hard in central midfield. Dylan Francis had the best of the chances early on, but was closed down quickly twice, when it seemed he would get a strike away. But Killorglin were rewarded before half time when a good move by Gearoid Hasset down the right side gave Dylan Francis the opportunity to put Killorglin 1-0 ahead, which he finished nicely! Martin Fay was solid in goal and dealt with anything Athletic had to offer.

Despite looking comfortable at the start of the second half, Killorglin conceded two goals in quick concession, and found themselves chasing the game. Ethan Coffey and Gearoid Hassett threatened to equalise on several occassions, however the introduction of Dylan Moriarty payed dividends. When his pace allowed him the opportunity to break through the middle, a classy finish put Killorglin back in the game. Dylan Moriarty again struck shortly after to put us back in the lead. Good defending from Stephen O’Loughlin, Kaiya O’Flaherty and Killian Burke ensured we stayed in front, and Darragh McKeefry was immense, sweeping and covering all around him. Tireless work from Jack O’Leary, Jack O’Connor and Aaron Broderick in midfield gave Killorglin plenty of chances of their own. And a free kick from Jack O’Connor was glanced into their own net by Athletic after close attention from Gearoid Hassett – despite the Athletic keeper doing his best to keep it out.

Late in the game, a wonderful finish from Aaron Broderick gave Killorglin some breathing space, and despite a late concession, the game finished 5-3. A trip to Ennis for the second round beckons.

Team: Martin Fay, Stephen O’Loughlin, Kaiya O’Flaherty, Darragh McKeefry, Killian Burke, Jack O’Leary, Jack O’Connor, Aaron Broderick, Ethan Coffey, Dylan Francis, Gearoid Hassett. Subs: Dylan Moriarty, Niall Carey, Cian Naylor, Oisin Cronin
