Under 12 Premier

  • Killorglin AFC 3 – 8 Kingdom Boys

A strong Kingdom Boys side came to Killorglin on Friday night, and despite a fairly even opening 10 minutes, the visitors took control, racing into an early three goal lead. And in truth, Killorglin were guilty of poor defending and were overrun in midfield. Despite a couple of better attacks approaching half time, Killorglin went into the break 4-1 down (Ethan Coffey forcing the Kingdom Boys defence into putting the ball into the back of their own net after a fantastic corner from Darragh McKeefry).

The second half gave us some hope with Ethan Coffey scoring after Gearoid Hassett was fouled for what should have been a penalty. Then a long range free kick from Jack O’Connor put us back in touching distance. But the visitors came on strong again, and finished with a flurry, and although 8-3 was flattering, they were the better side on the night.

  • St Brendans Park 4 – 3 Killorglin AFC

The A-team were in action in the Munster Junior Cup against St. Brendans Park. Park are a top side and Killorglin needed an improved performance from the game last Sunday. And that’s exactly what they gave. Even though they came out with a 4-3 loss, Killorglin can take a lot of positives from this game. We took the lead with a headed goal from Karl “Fla” Falvey, but let Park back in straight away. Then took the lead through a brilliant individual effort from Johnny Carey, only to give Park a soft penalty which they converted to make it 3-2. But Carey made another great run and was brought down in the box and converted the spot kick to make it 3-3 at the half. A mainly uneventful second half, with both sides having chances, Tony Lyons making a couple of solid saves. Then Dave Coffey with a great run, intercepted the ball and was in one and one on the keeper only for being pulled back by the defender who was sent off. With time nearly up, Park latched on to a loose ball and scored what proved to be the winner. You would have fancied Killorglin in extra time with the extra man but it wasn’t to be. Still a lot of positives to take from the game with some great individual performances and some new players just getting settled in – it’s looking much better. Johnny Carey M.O.T.M.

  • Aisling Annacotty 4 – 1 Killorglin AFC

The U-17’s had the daunting task of heading for Limerick today up against a good Limerick side in the FAI Umbro U-17 challenge cup. Derek George’s boys knew it was a big ask, but acquitted themselves well. In the end they went down 4-1 but at 2-1 at half time, were still in with a chance (Daniel Whittleton scored the goal). This will be great experience for the lads and they will have learned a lot from the game

Killorglin Under 13 side that faced Killarney Celtic in the League

  • Killorglin AFC 1 – 2 Killarney Celtic

Despite a nervy start on a greasy pitch, Killorglin settled in to the game and were unlucky on a number of occasions. But a fantastic header off his own line by Jack O’Connor kept the sides level after 15 minutes. Then a fantastic run by David Mangan gave Killorglin a penalty it was coolly dispatched by Jack O’Connor. And Jack almost doubled the lead when a long range effort was parried by the Celtic keeper. David Mangan almost got a second just before half time, but the game was 1-0 at half time.
Early pressure in the second half from Celtic saw them hit the post, and shortly after they were level after some sloppy defending. And soon after they took the lead when a dangerous ball across the box crept in off the far post. Alex O’Connor was being kept busy in goal and made some fine saves in the conditions. Despite some half chances, the game finished 2-1.

Senior A

  • Killarney Celtic 8-2 Killorglin AFC

1st game of the season – Hopefully there will be better days ahead. Johnny Carey and Shane O’Connor with the goals. Ryan Keane missed a penalty and there were a couple of scoring chances in the first half. Goalkeeper Chris O’Connor was sent off so the 4-0 at half time may have flattered Celtic. However Celtic are a top side and it is elsewhere Killorglin will be looking for points this season

Senior B

  • Killorglin AFC 2-2 Sneem Santos

Kevin O’Brien and Pa Knightly getting the goals. We were unlucky not to win. After going 1-0 down in the first 5 minutes Killorglin settled and Kevin O’Brien got the equaliser on the 15th min.The start of the second half saw Pa Knightly put Killorglin ahead with a well worked goal and from there we should have seen out the game with some great scoring chances. But with 10 mins left Sneem got an equaliser from a corner. Ryan O’Riordan who came on late had a couple of chances and was unlucky. Stuart Delaney (capt.) gave a Man of the Match performance. That’s 4 points from 2 games so not too bad.

Youths

  • Killarney Athletic 7-1 Killorglin AFC

Killorglin Youths got their league off to a start yesterday (Paul Russell takes charge) away to KIllarney Athletic. Athletic are strong this year and Killorglin Youths would be mostly made up from U-17’s so no surprise when they were beaten, but hopefully they can improve as the season progresses.

Premier Under 12s:

  • St Brendans Park Fc 4 – 5 Killorglin AFC

A brace from Gearoid Hassett and a long range effort from Jack O’Connor saw Killorglin race into an early lead, but the home team responded well and the first half ended in the concession of two goals. In the second half, the game looked to be slipping away from Killorglin as another Park goal put the sides level. With Gearoid Hassett coming off after picking up a knock, and substitute Jack O’Leary taking a heavy tackle just minutes after coming on, we were under pressure. The outstanding Sean Corcoran in midfield turned in a big performance to keep us in the game (and made it into the Kerry Schoolboys Team of the Week – click here), and when Ethan Coffey used his pace to bag two goals, we breathed a sigh of relief. Despite conceding another late in the game, and Darragh McKeefry clearing one off the line, we were good for the three points.

Team: Martin Fay, Oisin Cronin, Sean Cleary, Darragh McKeefry, Cian Naylor, Sean Corcoran, Jack O’Connor, Stephen O’Loughlin, Niall Carey, Gearoid Hassett, Ethan Coffey. Subs: Ruairi Murphy, Jack O’Connor, Kaiya O’Flaherty, Jason O’Sullivan.

Castlegregory 1 – 7 Killorglin

Castlegregory 1 – 7 Killorglin

First game of season – biggest ever score.

A great start to the league as we raced to an early 3-0 lead with goals from Gavin McKenna, Ray Marmion (a cracker) and an OG (though McKenna is claiming it). An unfortunate hand ball by captain Jerry Foley gifted Castelgregory with a lifeline through a converted penalty.

But 4 super goals in the second half ensured Killorglin got the win – Dan Whittleton claimed a brilliant hat-trick and McKenna claimed a 2nd. It was a day of firsts – first game for Beaufort man Ronan Brosnan, first time to score 7 goals and first time Michael McMahon finished on a winning Killorglin team. Keep it going

Registration for all Junior Players / Managers – Wednesday 7th August 2013

Registration for all players from Under 10s / Junior Academy to Under 16s will take place in CYMS hall on Wednesday 7th August at 8pm, followed by the club AGM. It is vitally important that every parent with a child looking to play soccer for Killorglin AFC in 2013/2014 should attend if possible. We need to assess the number of teams in each age group and if you do not register on the night, it means entering teams in the league, and providing adequate facilities is very difficult. We urge you to please make every effort to attend on the night.

Note: Only parents are required to attend for registration.
