U13

  • Killorglin AFC 0 – 2 Clonmel Town

A windy day in Dragons Den in Killorglin saw the visit of Clonmel Town. A much anticipated game saw a good turn out of fans, but the concession of a goal in the opening minute set the tone for a tough afternoon for the home team. And on the day, Clonmel Town were a little stronger when it mattered. For the rest of the opening half, Killorglin absorbed the pressure well, but were frustrated in midfield, and were limited to a few half chances before conceding a second before the break.

Although we enjoyed more possession in the second half, Clonmel were well organised at the back, and we seldom troubled their keeper.

Despite the result going against us, our lads can hold our heads up high and appreciate the achievement in getting to the last 8 of the National Cup. It is a huge credit to players, management and mentors alike that the team made it so far. Hopefully the trip to Manchester in the coming days will be enjoyed by all.

  • Killorglin AFC 2 – 2 Castlemaine

Monday night football returned to Killorglin with a cracker of a local derby. The game started with a flurry for Castlemaine as they raced into a deserved 2 goal lead as they took the game to the Killorglin lads.

But that all changed in the 2nd half as Killorglin’s Gavin McKenna took hold of the game. He was all over the pitch and try as they could Castlemaine couldn’t get the better of him. 15 minutes into the second half McKenna unleased a thunderbolt of a shot that cannoned off the crossbar – bounced just behind the line and up into the roof of the net. Even the ref got in on the act in congratulating McKenna.

It was the start of the comeback that saw Jack O’Connor get the equaliser from a corner and goalkeeper Kevin Coffey keeping the game level with a couple of high class saves late on.

 Senior B

  • Killorglin AFC 7 – 0 Balloonagh
Only 1 senior game this weekend – the B team were at home to Balloonagh in the all weather on sunday at 3:30. With the A’s having no game, the B team had a strong squad to pick from and 3 points were a must. Killorglin started the game brightly with some great passing and movement with everyone looking for the ball. Vinnie and Cozzy using the wings were able to stretch the opposition and before long we were 1-0 up. Some lovely movement between Shane Riordan and Kevin O’Brien up front, saw Shane chipping the keeper. Jamie O’Sullivan made it 2-0 with a fantastic strike from about 25 yards out (I know – we couldn’t believe it either). And just before the break, Kevin O’Brien FINALLY got that goal we knew was in him. 3-0 at the half time break.
With 4 more goals (Cozzy 2, Shane 1 and the ‘back from injury’ NAT with 1, it finished off a solid performance to win 7-0. Balloonagh didn’t help their cause by having 2 sent off in the 2nd half but take nothing away from the lads – great performances all round (Chris O’Connor with a couple of great stops in goal, and also Shane Riordan up front who ran tirelessly for the 90 mins. But M.O.T.M. had to go Cozzy with some great passing and 2 goals, although substitute Niall O’Shea almost had the moment of the match with a 70 yard run that nearly ended in a goal – probably just as well!!
The team: Chris O’Connor, Sheazo, Stuart Delaney (capt.), Jamie O’Sullivan, Jacko Breen, Cozzy, DiCanio, Brendy Breen, Vinnie West, Shane Riordan and Kevin O’Brien. Subs: Jed Teahan, Nat, Niall O’Shea, Alan O’Dwyer….Oh and MITCH.
Finally I would just like to take this chance again to wish the U-13s the best of luck in their Qtr. final and also to take this chance to wish the Gunners the best of luck in their semi. I know ye are all behind them. (lol) The U-17’s are playing the next 2 monday evenings in the all weather at 7pm and the senior A’s are in the KDL next Sat. evening (15th) at 5:30.
Regards Con.

  • Killorglin AFC 1 – 2 St Brendans Park

A fantastic game of football saw Killorglin narrowly defeated on the all-weather pitch on Saturday afternoon. Despite conceding an early goal from a corner, the defence grew into the game and Stephen, Darragh, Ruairi and Oisin looked solid. However, the game was a battle in midfield and Park had enough pace and skill to give Aaron, Jack O’Leary and Sean a tough game. Within a few minutes of conceding, we were level from a Sean Corcoran strike, after some good work by Jack O’Connor. And despite Gearoid being kept quiet up front, he was unlucky not to grab a goal on a number of occasions. Niall was having to work hard in midfield and given the closeness of the game, we were reluctant to make changes. Cian in goal had an excellent game. But in the end, with Gearoid and Niall picking up knocks, we had to change things around. Ethan looked lively when he came on, but unfortunately with a couple of minutes to go, we conceded a late goal. Nothing Martin (who had replaced Cian as keeper) could do about the strike. Despite the result, I was proud of the performance and this team will have better days.

Team: Cian Naylor, Stephen O’Loughlin, Oisin Cronin, Darragh McKeefry, Ruairi Murphy, Aaron Broderick, Jack O’Leary, Sean Corcoran, Niall Carey, Jack O’Connor, Gearoid Hassett. Subs: Martin Fay, Ethan Coffey, Jason O’Sullivan, Kaiya Flaherty, Sean Kissanne

Senior A

  • Killorglin AFC 2 – 2 Spa Road

Senior B

  • Killorglin AFC 1 – 5 AC Athletic
The A’s were at home to Spa Road who are a team in similar relegation trouble as ourselves so 3 points was a must. With some changes in personnel – 3 players being drafted in from the B team (Dan Horgan,Kevin O’Brien and Shane Riordan), the A’s got off to a good start with some nice passing and creating some good chances. On around the half hour mark were rewarded with a great goal from captain fantastic “Fla” when from a great corner from Kevin O’Brien he powered home an unstoppable header. Killorglin went in at the half deservedly 1-0 up.
The 2nd half continued in a similar fashion with Killorglin still controlling the game (Jerry O’Brien in great form in midfield) and with about 15 mins left on the clock 2 of the subs combined to score Killorglin’s 2nd. Ronan Sayers rising to flick on a great ball, and Ryan Keane cooly dinking the ball over the keeper for goal number 2 (even though goal line technology had to be brought in to confirm). With 15 mins left on the clock Killorglin looked like collecting a much needed 3 points but with about 5 mins left Spa pulled 1 back and with the last kick of the game Spa got the equaliser. Disappointing in the end but definitely a big improvement and hopefully with weather permitting, a few games together and the win will come. Good performances all round with Kevin O’Brien getting the nod for M.O.T.M. with a hard working performance and unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.
The B team on the other hand, unfotunately had nothing go right. They were at home to AC Athletic who were playing Prem B last year so had plenty of experience. But making no excuses, the ball just wasn’t going where we were looking and after about 10 mins were 1-0 down, and 2 down after about 20 mins. But to be fair to the lads they got stuck in and with about half an hour on the clock got a free about 30 yards out and Sheazo (only back from injury) pulled one back. If we could have held that till the half things might have been different but we conceded again and went in at half time 3-1 down. There were a couple of changes in the second half but to no avail. Another 2 goals from AC and the game finished 5-1. Not a good day in the office and a pity after a couple of good performances but lets hope for better next week. M.O.T.M. went to Chris O’Connor for some good saves in the 1st half to keep us in the game.
That’s it for this week, by the way congratulations to the U-13’s on a fantastic achievement on reaching last 8 of National Cup. Best of luck in the Qtr. finals from all in the senior camp.
Regards
Con

With Gearoid Hassett out injured, and Cian Naylor unwell, it was a tough game for Killorglin who had beaten Listowel at home a few weeks back. But right from the start, we were on the back foot. And although we had many chances, we never really looked like competing. Two good goals from Ethan Coffey were about as good as it got!!

Senior A

  • Killorglin AFC 2 – 1 Killarney Athletic

The A team were in action on Sunday to Killarney Athletic who beat us 5-1 in the reverse fixture a couple of weeks ago. So it was nice to turn it around even though our boys gave Athletic the dream start when Sheazo was (adjudged harshly) to have brought down the opponent in the box. Athletic 1-0 up after 3 minutes, but the lads kept the heads and midway through the half, captain fantastic “Fla” in his new midfield role connected sweetly on the half volley on a loose ball and levelled the game.

1-1 at half time and Killorglin looked comfortable in the 2nd half without creating too much. But from a corner Paul Patrick nodded down and “Keano” struck and put the home team 2-1 up. Athletic then had a man sent off and it looked like Killorglin would finish off the game, but to be fair to Athletic they kept the pressure on and only for some good goalkeeping and a last minute header off the line from sub Lee Carey it could have ended in a draw. Killorglin deserved the win though and its 3 points that were vital if they are going to get back on track. A great result for Chucks and Jerry Kells and some good performances especially from M.O.T.M. Jason Foley back in goals.
